Oxfordshire v Warwickshire – Mon 18th June – Morning
Day 1 of CMW 2018 saw Oxfordshire take on Warwickshire in the morning match. This being the first year of the new format, 2 x Foursomes matches followed by 3 x Singles matches.
Leading the way in the first foursomes match were County Captain Karen Pollard and Victoria Hart. Going through the front 9 they were 2up with some great shots from both players. This carried on for them to put the first win on the board for Oxfordshire with a 4/2 win. Next out in the foursomes were County vice-captain Maggie Findlay and Jess Otto making her debut at CMW. Another solid performance from them resulting in a 3/2 victory and two points on the board. One more needed for overall victory!
The first of the singles matches were led out by County Champion Millie Anderson. With a fantastic match played Oxfordshire suffered their first loss of the morning losing 1down after 18. Kate Evans followed and another enthralling match but again a loss on the 18th. The final singles match was another player making their debut at CMW with Niki Sutton. Yet another great match going all the way but defeat fell again on the 18th with Oxfordshire finally losing overall 3-2 but spirits were still very high.
Onwards to the afternoon match against Berkshire…. Come on girls!!
Oxfordshire v Berkshire – Mon 18th June – Afternoon
After a really great morning match we started our afternoon match against Berkshire in high spirits and hope.
The foursomes started with Millie Anderson and Kate Evans leading the field but were unable to hold on to secure first points went down with a 3/1 loss. Our second pair of Amy Boote and Niki Sutton in their first foursomes match together had a resounding 5/4 win. The singles matches followed Cara Gainer leading the way after her selection for England squad the previous weekend had a good tussle with the Berkshire County Champion and held on to come out with a 3/1 victory. Victoria Hart went out third but came up against a strong Berkshire player Julia Warke and suffered a defeat.
This left the match finally balanced at 2-2 with one game still going, Jess Otto against Irish international Laura Webb. This was a fantastic match culminating in an exciting halved match which could have gone either way.
A good solid start to our 2018 CMW for Oxfordshire.
Looking forward to our matches on Tuesday against Northamptonshire and Worcs & Herefordshire.

Oxfordshire v Northamptonshire – Tues 19th June – Morning
Day 2 saw Oxfordshire begin their third match of the competition taking on Northamptonshire in the morning match.
Buoyed from getting a great halved match the previous afternoon Oxfordshire went into this with high spirits.
Leading the way in the first foursomes match were Millie Anderson and Cara Gainer and got our first point on the board with a great 3/2 win. New pairing of Amy Boote and Niki Sutton carried on their winning ways with a great 2/1 win victory.
The singles matches then followed with Maggie Findlay out first. Unfortunately, not able to carry on from her foursomes win the day before falling to defeat. Jess Otto followed and she came in with another great match and got a great half from it. The final singles match was Karen Pollard who had a great match with an Irish international and bagged herself her second victory with a 3/2 win. These results gave Oxfordshire their first win in the competition and a very happy captain and team.
Bring on the afternoon match!
Oxfordshire v Worcs & Herefordshire – Tues 19th June – Afternoon
Buoyed by their morning victory Oxfordshire went out in very high spirits for their afternoon match.
Frilford Heath pairing of Cara Gainer and Kate Evans led the way for the foursomes and came in with a very solid start with a great 6/5 victory. A great start to the afternoon. The second pairing of Maggie Findlay and Victoria Hart didn’t fair so well with their match resulting in a loss.
Millie Anderson led the singles and had a very exciting match with it going down to the 18th again! A great 2nd shot into the green and only being one foot from flag from for a gimmee and a victory 1up. Amy Boote kept up her good form too coming in with a 3/2 victory. Karen Pollard out last in the singles want able to carry on from her morning form sadly losing. But all the results gave Oxfordshire their second win of the day and again a very happy captain and team.
This left us in second place overall and in high spirits and ready to take on Buckinghamshire in their final match.
Oxfordshire v Buckinghamshire – Wed 20th June – Morning
The last morning arrives and Oxfordshire are up against defending
champions Buckinghamshire. All to play for but it wasn’t to be
Oxfordshire’s day. The first foursomes pairing of Kate Evans and Jess
Otto suffered defeat against a strong Bucks pair as did Amy Boote and
Niki Sutton who had been undefeated in their foursomes prior to this
match. Our singles were led out by Cara Gainer who put the first point
on the board for Oxfordshire which as it turns out was to be their only
point from the match as both Millie Anderson and Karen Pollard both lost
their singles matches.
Buckinghamshire were then the overall winners.
Such a shame we couldn’t finish with a victory but I am immensely proud and happy of our performance this week and finishing 3rd overall with Warwickshire.
It has been a great week with lots of good matches, great performances from all of our squad and a week I thoroughly enjoyed and will not forget. Thank you very much to all of the squad for making it special and to Barbara too for her support as always.
Onwards and upwards to next year where we will be hosting.
