County Match Week '24, Day 1 - Tough start, but Caroline J earns County Colours

This year’s Midlands South County Week is being held at Fulford Heath Golf Club just outside Birmingham. The Course has been immaculately prepared, and the Club is clearly relishing the task of hosting such a significant event.

With a squad of nine players, which included debuts from Alex Howe and Lara Murphy, we were all delighted to see so many Oxfordshire supporters in attendance on the first day of play. We are also grateful to those who have given up their time to help the team by caddying, or working behind the scenes to ensure the players can focus on their matches. It makes a huge difference and is really appreciated.

Day 1 AM - Berkshire

There was an early start off the tenth tee this morning, but everyone was ready for a good tussle against Berkshire. With foursomes duos of Caroline Johnson and Tracy Roberts, Kate Evans and Annie Gowing, and the singles slots taken by Amy Boote, Alex Howe and Lydia Avann, everyone was well prepared and looking forward to the start of play. There were several close fought matches, but the end result was a disappointing loss. Happily for Caroline, delivering another win in CMW saw her achieve her County Colours.

Day 1 PM - Buckinghamshire

Always the stiffest test of the tournament, we were expecting and got a tough session against Buckinghamshire. Caroline and Tracy led the way again in the foursomes, followed by Kate and Lara Murphy, and singles players comprising Alex, Sarah Hillas, and Amy. Everyone dug in, fought hard, but against some very classy opposition were not able to make an impact.
