Oxfordshire Girls maintain unbeaten record against Oxfordshire Boys
25 March, 2024
On Sunday 24th March, Oxfordshire Girls played Oxfordshire Boys at Tadmarton Heath in the annual fixture that has been held for 9 years. The course was in very good condition, and the sun was shining, with only a little bit of wind around to add to the challenge.
10 girls representing 6 different clubs played in pairs in a fourball better ball matchplay format. With a mixture of experienced junior county players and 5 girls making their debut for the team, each pair included a player with previous or local knowledge of the course to help the team start strong and finish stronger.
With 2024 Junior Girls Captain Elizabeth Ball supporting from the sidelines due to injury, Lara Murphy (Frilford Heath) and Ava Fegan-Smith (Studley Wood) led the team out. That match and the 2nd game featuring Harija Marfleet (Frilford Heath) and Amelia Sambrook (Tadmarton Heath) were very closely fought.
In the middle match, Julia Bauder (Kirtlington) and Ali Dolamore (Drayton Park) were comfortable winners. Kirsty Soffe (Burford) and Ruby West (Drayton Park) battled through a tough match to a hard won victory. In the final game, Phoebe Simons (Tadmarton Heath) and Isabelle O’Neill (Drayton Park) brought the team home with a handsome win.
The overall result - the Oxfordshire Girls won 3.5 to 1.5 to maintain their unbeaten record in the fixture. Both teams enjoyed pizza and refreshments in the clubhouse afterwards.
Thanks to Tadmarton Heath for hosting the fixture and being so welcoming to our county teams. Thanks also to all the parents and supporters. Well played girls!
